Answer honestly — this is a self-check, not a certificate. Every field maps to the current regulations.

Zone 1: Northland–Auckland–Waikato–BoP. Zone 2: rest of North Island. Zone 3: South Island + Central Plateau. Sets the ceiling insulation target.

Must be fixed (not portable/plug-in). Open fires, unflued gas, and most portable electric heaters do NOT qualify.

Target: ceiling R2.9 (Zone 1&2) / R3.3 (Zone 3), underfloor R1.3. Pre-2016 ceiling insulation ≥120mm in good condition may still qualify.

Openable windows in every living room, dining room, kitchen & bedroom (≥5% of floor area). Kitchen fan ≥150mm duct or ≥50 L/s; bathroom fan ≥120mm duct or ≥25 L/s, venting outdoors.

Working gutters, downpipes & drains. An enclosed subfloor needs a ground moisture barrier (polythene).

No unreasonable gaps/holes in walls, floors, windows, doors. Unused open fireplaces & chimneys must be blocked.

Indicative self-assessment only — not a compliance certificate. Thresholds reflect the Residential Tenancies (Healthy Homes Standards) Regulations 2019 as amended (current from 1 July 2025). The binding required heating capacity must come from the official Tenancy Services Heating Assessment Tool. Exemptions and property-specific conditions can apply — confirm with a qualified assessor before certifying.
